New York Post:

Albert Pujols’ name is in the history books, alongside Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds.

The Cardinals slugger homered twice against the Dodgers on Friday, the 699th and 700th long-balls of his 22-season MLB career.

Pujols joined Ruth (714), Aaron (755) Barry Bonds (762) in the ultra-exclusive club.

In the top of the third inning, the 42-year-old sent a pitch from Los Angeles’ Andrew Heaney 434 feet into the stands for a 2-0 Cardinals lead and his 20th homer of the season.

The wait for No. 700 didn’t take long.

Pujols’ milestone home came one inning later, a three-run shot off reliever Phil Bickford for a 5-0 St. Louis lead.

New York Post:

Albert Pujols belted his 697th career homer on Sunday, breaking a tie with Alex Rodriguez to take sole possession of fourth place on MLB’s all-time home run list.

The 42-year-old veteran’s blast came when the Cardinals were desperate for a scoring surge against the Pirates.

Pujols smacked a two-run home run into center field, helping St. Louis pick up a 4-3 road win at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park.

The sure-fire future Hall of Famer has hit 18 total home runs during his 22nd and final campaign. Pujols also has 21 more regular-season games for a chance to join the 700 club.

“There’s impressive, and then there’s unbelievable,” Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said about Pujols postgame Sunday. “And what we’re witnessing right now is absolutely legendary.”

Two Pirates fans, Matt and Samantha Brown, caught Pujols’ historical home run and met with the Cardinals veteran postgame to give him the ball back.

After Samantha told Pujols that Sunday was the one-year anniversary of her dad’s death, he let them keep the ball and signed two more for them,’s Jeff Jones reported.

Entering Saturday, Pujols had slowed down a bit, going 0-for-12 over his previous four games after a surge at the plate in August. The 42-year-old legend is up to a .266/.339/.520 slash line with 17 homers, 46 RBI, 30 runs scored and a stolen base through 283 plate appearances this year. He'll have up to 22 more games in 2022 in his pursuit to become the fourth member of the 700-homer club.

In a lost season for us, but certainly not for Albert, Peter and I claimed him last night in the mixed-league XFL. Fourth round.

Big performance in win
July 27, 2022
Pujols went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Blue Jays.
Pujols hasn't hit a triple since 2014, so he was never realistically going to have a chance at a cycle. It was still an impressive three-hit performance, with his fifth-inning homer accounting for insurance runs for the Cardinals. The 42-year-old slugger has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, going 14-for-36 (.389) in that span. He's up to seven homers, 24 RBI, 18 runs scored, a stolen base, eight doubles and a .241/.321/.420 slash line in 187 plate appearances.
